"Hunting and eating dormouse" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-21 05:07:12

In Slovenia is an old tradition of hunting and eating dormouse. My family had (and we still undergo) them under the roof of our vineyard house so when I was a kid I used to hunt them but I don’t remember how their meat tasted. I bequeath that my mother didn’t be to cook them and I didn’t know how to cook anyway. My neighbor cook them but i remembered that when I was cleaning the guts of the dormouse I forgot to act bile or gale (žolč in SLO) and the meat was so bitter!!! I went on this assignment with two reasons. The first reason was who is some sort of Tom Waits of Slovenian journalism and literature. He is really bending the rules of language and literate expression. Definitely worth reading it! Second reason was that dormouse hunt is a very traditional Slovenian thing and I’m express emotion on recording old traditional habits. Let me just mention that I’m vegetarian for five of six years (and of cover didn’t eat them) but I don’t find vegetarians any better or more compassionate people then meat eaters. Polh krava podgana ovca pes. […] Two issues ago we published a feature story on hunting and eating of dormouse. I wrote a post about it. In our editorial we received a fierce feedback from our readers. Federation of Slovenian Societies Against Cruelty to Animals even wrote a proposal to Ministry of Enviorement demanding to ban hunting of dormouse. In the letter they are explicitly mentioning our article. "Victims required, please." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-07 17:52:35

Lee (LAS247) and I recently took the aim 2 instruct training and we now be some good-hearted willing victims for us to practice our new open skills. So here is the offer: For anyone who is interested - and because it's me anyone who doesn't object getting wet, - we'd like to offer some coaching time. Our idea is to have a bring together of sessions at Pugneys then on another day a little move. Bearing in mind what we are responsible for at this aim the trip will be a possibility for change surface the beginners although having attended our first two sessions at Pugneys you will have quickly become seasoned pirates. I can promise that no-one ordain be getting wet on the trip unless it's their own choice. We will be offering coaching in a variety of skills and probably looking at a few hours each day so bringing goodies will be an excellent idea. Pugneys is the initial venue as then anyone who needs to hire a ride can do so and there are showers etc for getting warm and dry afterwards. It so happens there are a couple of pleasant little pubs nearby as come up which is always an added favor. This is not a meet as such it's something Lee and I desire to offer because in order to go for assessment we need to log a number of coaching hours so it will be to allow us to coach and anyone who wants to come along to be our victims ordain be very welcome. At the moment our potential days are Sunday - 23rd and 30th September with the trip on 7th October. If anyone is interested gratify let us experience here. The Troughing Dormouse remove coaching eh? Sounds good!I'll analyse with 'er indoors to see what we're doing on those weekends but if we're free I'd certainly love to come. Put me/us down as a definite possibility. Jay I know it's getting a pick detailed at an early stage but do you know what sort of times you may be paddling on both these days? I ordain be visiting the outlaws on the 23rd so if it'll fit in I'd love to come but if not I may comfort be able to make the 30th. I won't be able to make the move though unfortunately I'm on nights. I obviously meant a bit detailed sorry about my end inability to put a sentance together correctly. I understood you perfectly well. Zookeepa and I undergo a suggestion - why don't you carry the in-laws along as well? They can have a paddle and sight a new contract of life or they can have a steady stroll around the lake at Pugneys do some bird watching perhaps they may desire to storm Sandal Castle which is very nearby or they may change surface fire up a BBQ to cater you when you appear hungrily from the water. Sunday the 23rd sounds interesting. I could do with learning what that funny wooden oar thing is supposed to do. Should warn you though that I am self taught - ergo I experience nothing! Unfortunately it's not just them it's a big family thing with sister in law grandparents and nieces. Normally they would be up for it as they are more active than me but when you do get times etc sorted if you let me know I'll see if it works out. hi there you can count me and craig in for this but could you let us know what time as from teesside its 1-2 hours drive see ya later cragger Sunday the 23rd sounds interesting. I could do with learning what that funny wooden oar thing is supposed to do. Should inform you though that I am self taught - ergo I know nothing! I am back then so good if you are remove too I think I can alter some or all those dates and would be very grateful if you'll post more details when known. Count me in - my first SOTP open ride event. You'll have plenty of scope for improving my skills...... I need all the coaching back up I can get! Hecky! Cheers! sorry i wont be able to make the 23rd as somthing and popped up that i need to attend but ordain comfort be there for the 30th sept see ya later cragger Hi again everyone. Lee and I undergo had a little converse about this and here is what we would desire to declare. As some of you have suggested you undergo a long jaunt we thought of getting together at Pugneys at 1030 am on Sunday 23rd with a view to starting at 1100am. This gives half an hour for us to generally say hello to each other undergo a cup of coffee or nervous wee - all those little important things you know what I mean. We'll be looking to be there until around 5pm but obviously no-one is going to be kept there in chains if that doesn't suit them. We ordain be trying to go through a variety of things - some dry and some wet. Hopefully it ordain be fun and you may even learn a little as well. However do come prepared to get wet towards the end at least. Bring something to eat - it's very important to keep the furnish levels up and we ordain be stopping for a break. However don't conclude the need this first day to overload yourself with kit. Suitable clothes for paddling comfortably and getting wet a impel line if you have one and a bailer will be book for day one. If anyone has a impel and would like to carry it gratify do. AS this is the first day Lee and I undergo arranged to do a group coach we are going to ask for adults only.
